Once there was a wolf. He was very wicked. One day he was very hungry and thirsty.
He went to a stream to drink water. There he saw a fat lamb drinking water. The wolf was very pleased. He wanted to eat the lamb. He invented an excuse to kill the lamb.
He said to the lamb, “Why are you making the water dirty? Don’t -you see I want to drink it ?” The poor lamb began to tremble.
He said, “Sir, how can I make the water dirty? It is flowing from your side to my side.” The wolf invented another excuse.
He said, “Why did you abuse me last year ?” The lamb replied, “Sir, I was not even born last year. I am only ten months old.”
Then the wolf said, “If it was not you, it must have been your mother. I will eat you. Saying this, he fell upon the poor lamb and killed him.
A Wolf and a Small Lamb
एक बार एक भेड़िया था। वह बहुत दुष्ट था। एक दिन वह बहुत भूखा व प्यासा था। वह पानी पीने एक नदी पर गया। वहाँ उसने एक मोटा मेमना पानी पीते हुए देखा। भेड़िया बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ। वह मेमने को खाना चाहता था। उसने मेमने को मारने का बहाना खोजा।
उसने मेमने से कहा, “तुम पानी गंदा क्यों कर रहे हो ? क्या तुम नहीं देखते कि मैं पानी पीना चाहता हूँ।” बेचारा मेमना काँपने लगा।
उसने कहा “श्रीमान् मैं पानी कैसे गंदा कर सकता हूँ? यह आपकी तरफ से मेरी तरफ बह रहा है।” भेड़िये ने दूसरा बहाना बनाया और कहा “तुमने मुझे पिछले साल गाली क्यों दी थी?”
मेमने ने उत्तर दिया, “श्रीमान् पिछले साल मैं पैदा भी नहीं हुआ था। मैं केवल दस महीने का हूँ। ” तब भेड़िये ने कहा, “यदि तुम नहीं होगे तो वह तुम्हारी माता होगी, मैं तुम्हें खाऊँगा।” यह कहकर वह बेचारे मेमने पर टूट पड़ा और उसे मार दिया।
