Once upon a time, there were two friends. One day they were traveling together. They came to a forest. The forest was full of wild animals.
One of the friends said, “There are many wild animals in this forest. We should not pass through it.” The other friend said, “Don’t be afraid of wild animals. I am with you.
I will help you.” They entered the forest. After some time they saw a big bear coming towards them. The friend who had promised to help ran to a tall tree and climbed up.
The other fellow did not know how to climb a tree. He was frightened. He knew that his life was in danger. But he did not lose his presence of mind.
He lay down on the ground. He held up his breath. The bear came to him. The bear smelt him. It took him to be dead and went away.
When it was out of sight, the other friend climbed down and came to him. He said, “What did the bear whisper in your ear?”
He replied, “It said that one should never rely on an unfaithful friend.” The other friend felt ashamed.
Two Friends and A Bear
एक बार दो मित्र थे। एक दिन वे साथ-साथ यात्रा कर रहे थे। वे एक जंगल में आए। जंगल हिंसक जानवरों से भरा हुआ था।
एक मित्र ने कहा, “जंगल में बहुत से हिंसक जानवर हैं। हमें इसमें से नहीं जाना चाहिए।” दूसरे मित्र ने कहा, “हिंसक जानवरों से मत डरो, मैं तुम्हारे साथ हूँ। मैं तुम्हारी सहायता करूँगा।”
वे जंगल में घुस गए। कुछ समय बाद उन्होंने एक बड़े भालू को अपनी तरफ आते हुए देखा। जिस मित्र ने सहायता करने का वायदा किया था वह एक ऊँचे पेड़ की तरफ दौड़ा और उस पर चढ़ गया।
दूसरा आदमी पेड़ पर चढ़ना नहीं जानता था। वह डर गया। वह जान गया कि उसका जीवन खतरे में था। परन्तु उसने धैर्य नहीं खोया। वह जमीन पर लेट गया। उसने अपनी साँस रोक ली।
भालू उसके पास आया। भालू ने उसे सूँघा । भालू ने उसे मृत समझा और लौट गया। जब वह आँखों से ओझल हो गया, दूसरा मित्र नीचे उतरा और अपने मित्र के पास आया।
उसने कहा, “भालू ने तुम्हारे कान में क्या कहा ?” उसने उत्तर दिया, “भालू ने कहा कि झूठे मित्र पर कभी विश्वास मत करो।” दूसरा मित्र शर्मिन्दा हुआ।
