LIFE IN AN INDIAN VILLAGE | PLEASURES OF THE COUNTRY LIFE

Introduction

Many poets have praised the country life for its beauty, simplicity and naturalness.

William Cowper said that God made the country and man made the town. It will not be too much to say that God lives in the villages and soul of our country lives there where the farmers work and sleep.

Pleasures of Country Life

Country life is full of pleasures. The atmosphere is peaceful. There is no quarrelling, no accidents and no violence. We get mental peace in villages. The people of villages are helpful in nature. In cities we find so many troubles.

Good Health

If health is wealth, this wealth is found in plenty in villages. People get fresh and natural things to eat. They get natural and pure water to drink.

They consume fresh milk and butter. They eat fresh vegetables. They breathe fresh air. They work hard from morning till evening in their fields. Their regular physical work makes them healthy and strong.

Natural Life

The village life is natural. The villages are situated in the lap of nature. Life in the village is very simple.

It is far away from the maddening crowd of the cities. People are free from the tensions here. The relations of people are primary and permanent in nature here.

Green Revolution in the Countryside

The applications of machines in farming has completely changed the shape of villages. Throughout the year, the fields are full of green crops. Now villages produce more grains. The increased production has affected their economy. Now people in the villages are more happy than they were ever before.

Plans for Rural Development

The government has introduced a number of schemes for rural uplift or development. Many villages have been electrified.

They have been connected with the main roads. New schools and colleges have been opened. The Primary Health Centres have been established in the villages. Now they are connected with telephones.

Population in the Countryside

People in the villages have not adopted the methods of family planning. The result is that population is increasing. The land is being divided. The small land holdings have become uneconomical. The villagers are employed only for a few months in a year.

Politics in the Villages

The bacteria of politics have entered the village also.

The peaceful life has been disturbed here. Family quarrels, false cases and murder have become common in the villages. People are still poor, ignorant and superstitious. Still much is to be done for rural development.

Conclusion

After 50 years of independence most of the villages in India do not have the facility of drinking water. There are floods and drought in the villages. But they cannot get proper help. The leaders are not honest.

They are filling their own pockets instead of improving the condition of poor villagers.
